About NRS Custom X

A Sneaker Customization Studio Built on Craft, Culture, and Community

NRS Custom X is a sneaker customization studio based in Staten Island, New York, created for people who care deeply about craft, creativity, and sneaker culture. What began as a shared obsession with sneakers and hands-on design has grown into a destination studio where sneaker fans, creatives, and collectors come to learn, design, and build something truly original.

At its core, NRS Custom X focuses on one thing done well: custom sneakers made the right way. That means thoughtful design, durable materials, hands-on craftsmanship, and an educational process that welcomes both first-time creators and experienced artists into the studio.

How NRS Custom X Started

NRS Custom X was founded in early 2023 with a clear vision: to build a community-driven creative space rooted in sneaker customization and culture. The original goal was simple but ambitious. Create a place where artists and creatives could develop real skills, take their work seriously, and turn passion into something tangible.

As the studio evolved, its focus sharpened.

Today, NRS Custom X is co-owned and led by Robert “Rob” Gullery and Danny Lee. The studio is fully centered around sneaker customization, bespoke sneaker builds, and hands-on education. What began as a creative academy has transformed into a working sneaker customization lab serving clients and creators across New York City and the surrounding tri-state area.

Inside the NRS Custom X Studio

Located in Staten Island, often referred to as Shaolin, NRS Custom X has become a recognized space for sneaker culture and creative craftsmanship.

The studio brings together:

  • Sneaker art and customization projects
  • Hands-on workstations for painting and building
  • Professional-grade paints and materials
  • Sneaker-making tools and machinery
  • Music, basketball culture, and streetwear influence
  • A gallery of one-of-one bespoke sneakers

This is not a traditional retail store.
It is not a typical classroom either.

NRS Custom X is a working studio where ideas move from concept to finished sneakers, and where learning happens through hands-on experience and real craftsmanship.

Who NRS Custom X Is For

NRS Custom X works with a wide range of people, but the studio is especially designed for:

  • Everyday sneaker fans looking for custom sneakers that feel personal and wearable
  • Kids and teens attending sneaker workshops, birthday parties, and creative experiences
  • Adults taking sneaker customization classes for skill-building or creative exploration
  • Businesses commissioning unique employee gifts or branded sneaker projects

Whether someone is painting sneakers for the first time or commissioning a high-end bespoke build, the experience is approachable, educational, and grounded in respect for the craft.

What Makes NRS Custom X Different

Sneaker customization is everywhere online, but NRS Custom X takes a different approach.

The studio is:

  • Education-first, not shortcut-driven
  • In-person, not mass-produced
  • Craft-focused, not trend-chasing
  • Community-rooted, not transactional

People travel from Pennsylvania, Connecticut, New Jersey, and beyond to take classes and commission work because NRS Custom X does not treat sneaker customization as a gimmick. Every project begins with an understanding of materials, structure, and design, rather than simply painting over a finished shoe.

The result is custom sneakers that last, feel intentional, and reflect the person wearing them.

A Sneaker Customization Studio Built for the Culture

NRS Custom X sits at the intersection of sneakers, art, music, and community. It is a space designed to inspire curiosity, creativity, and confidence, whether someone is commissioning custom sneakers, learning a new skill, or stepping into sneaker culture for the first time.

More than anything, NRS Custom X stands as a reminder that sneakers do not have to be stock, creativity does not have to be intimidating, and learning is best when it is hands-on, intentional, and real.
